Reasonably priced 2 yos turning out very well; continued footprints of Distorted Humor's first crop

The Santa Ynez was certainly a one-horse race, and fans are looking forward to a year's worth of excitement from Reneesgotzip. It might be a little out of step to mention the exacta, then, but I noticed that runner-up Made to Love Her cost just $30,000 as a 2-year-old; Reneesgotzip was a $45,000 2-year-old. This doesn't quite qualify as astounding news to people who keep an eye on these things, but it does show that there is still much to learn with 2-year-olds in training. A one-time $45,000 yearling besting a one-time $30,000 yearling in a grade II wouldn't cause anyone to bat an eye, of course. Thinking about what these bargains can teach us, if anything, neither Reneesgotzip or Made to Love Her is by an established sire of grade I winners. While City Zip doesn't fit that mold, he is an awfully, awfully good sire, however.

As an aside, Reneesgotzip's dam (No Dress Code) was in the first crop of Distorted Humor's. Of course, that group overall had female families corresponding to a low-to-moderate fee stallion, not a special one. Although she was by no means hopelessly slow, it can't be said that No Dress Code greatly outperformed her female family on the track, either. So the talent of Reneesgotzip can presumably be credited mostly to just City Zip and Distorted Humor.
